"textContent": "ISLAMABAD: The federal government has urged the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to withdraw their planned protests, claiming that most of the demands raised by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) have already been addressed.\n\nSpeaking at a press briefing, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the government has taken extensive steps to resolve public grievances in AJK and warned against participation in any movement that could disturb law and order.\n\nHe said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has always prioritised the welfare of the people of Kashmir and ensured that their concerns are included in national policymaking.\n\nChaudhry said a high-level committee was formed to engage with the JAC and that an agreement reached with the group has largely been implemented. A monitoring mechanism has also been set up to oversee progress on the commitments.\n\nAccording to him, the committee initially presented only a few demands, which later expanded. He claimed that most of these demands have already been fulfilled, including electricity supply at Rs3 per unit, subsidies on essential commodities, improvements in internet services, introduction of e-tendering for electricity meters, and the rollout of the health card programme in AJK.\n\nHe added that administrative reforms such as reducing the cabinet size and streamlining government departments have also been implemented.\n\nThe minister reiterated that constitutional provisions regarding refugee seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly cannot be altered without proper legislation, rejecting demands for their immediate abolition.\n\nHe urged citizens not to become part of any protest movement that could affect peace and stability in the region.\n\nMeanwhile, AJK government spokesperson Shaukat Javed Mir praised Pakistan’s armed forces and leadership for their support to the region, saying they have played an important role during crises and in policy support for AJK.\n\nFormer AJK prime minister Sardar Atiq Ahmed Khan also backed the continuation of refugee seats, saying they are an essential part of the region’s constitutional structure until the Kashmir dispute is resolved.\n\nHe added that Pakistan’s position on Kashmir remains strong and cautioned against any move that could weaken the long-standing national stance on the issue.\n\nThe post Govt urges AJK people to call off protests, says most JAC demands already met appeared first on HUM News English.",
