Pakistan’s ongoing tax, digital economy and trade reforms have led to notable improvements in the ease of doing business, with authorities reporting significant gains in revenue collection and financial digitisation.
According to official details, reforms aimed at modernising the tax system, expanding digital payments and upgrading the trade sector have resulted in a 26 per cent increase in tax revenue in the 2025 fiscal year.
As part of the digitisation drive, more than 34,000 taxpayers have been linked to online billing systems, while the use of digital machines has improved overall tax collection efficiency. Authorities said the introduction of artificial intelligence tools has also helped identify tax evasion, leading to the recovery of billions of rupees in additional revenue from various industrial sectors.
Under the broader “Digital Pakistan” initiative, digital payment systems and online financial services have been expanded across the country. The Raast instant payment system has now been linked with 50 million additional users and 1.1 million businesses, bringing the total number of users to around 130 million.
Officials further said that online payment facilities introduced in government institutions, including NADRA and other departments, have made fee payments and public transactions significantly easier for citizens.
In a major policy shift, the government has also launched the National Tariff Policy 2025–30, aimed at introducing structural reforms in trade and tariff regimes. The policy is expected to reduce tariffs, modernise trade processes and create a more conducive environment for business activity and exports.
Authorities say these tax, digital and trade reforms are playing a key role in improving transparency, boosting economic activity and strengthening Pakistan’s overall business environment.
