ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting on ongoing reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), where steps to modernise the tax system and improve revenue collection were discussed. A comprehensive plan was presented to make Inland Revenue operations more effective, transparent, and faceless through automation. Prime minister Shehbaz said that introducing an automated tax management system using technology would be a milestone in improving governance. He stressed that reducing human intervention and discretionary powers in tax collection is essential for efficiency and fairness. The proposed system, he added, will increase revenue, enhance transparency, and strengthen public trust. He said that reforms will continue to expand the documentation of the economy and widen the tax net. The premier also appreciated provincial governments for their action against illegal cigarette trade. He directed that the new automated income tax collection system be launched from Islamabad.
