"textContent": "LAHORE: A heavy dust storm and torrential rain lashed Lahore and its surrounding areas on Thursday, tripping more than 130 electricity feeders and plunging large swaths of the provincial capital into darkness.\n\nThe sudden weather shift brought down temperatures and provided much-needed relief to residents from the intense summer heat, but it severely disrupted the regional power transmission network operated by the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).\n\n## Grid disruptions and power supply\n\nAccording to a LESCO spokesperson, a total of 138 electricity feeders tripped across the region due to the high winds and heavy downpours, while another 23 feeders developed technical faults.\n\nWithin the Lahore metropolitan area alone, 72 feeders knocked offline, cutting off power supply to multiple densely populated neighborhoods, the spokesperson said.\n\nThe supply disruptions occurred at a time when LESCO's electricity demand was recorded at 3,700 megawatts (MW), matching its official power quota of 3,700 MW from the national grid.\n\nThe utility provider stated that its field staff had been placed on high alert.\n\n\"Restoration work on the affected feeders was initiated immediately after the rain subsided,\" the LESCO spokesperson said, adding that management is appealing to consumers for patience and cooperation during the emergency repairs.\n\nThe company urged citizens to report outages through official channels rather than attempting self-repairs.\n\n\"In case of power suspension, inform LESCO and wait for the technical team to arrive. For any emergency, consumers should contact their local complaint offices or call the 118 helpline immediately,\" the spokesperson said.\n\nThe utility also issued a public safety advisory, warning residents to keep children and domestic pets away from wet electrical installations, transformers, and downed power lines.\n\n### Rainfall data across Lahore\n\nThe Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) reported that the downpour affected almost all quadrants of the city, with varying intensities recorded across key monitoring stations.\n\nAccording to data released by the WASA spokesperson, the rainfall distribution across Lahore was recorded as follows:\n\nGulshan-e-Ravi: 14.4 mm (highest recorded area); Sgiyan:13.2 mm; Samanabad:11 mm; Lakshmi Chowk: 8.2 mm; Upper Mall: 6.2 mm; Jail Road/Mason Road/Lawrence Road: 6 mm; Head Office Gulberg: 5.6 mm; Chowk Nakhuda: 4 mm; Allama Iqbal International Airport: 1.8 mm and Farrukhabad: 1.6 mm\n\nOther major thoroughfares and intersections — including Ferozepur Road, Qurtaba Chowk, Waris Road, Queens Road, Riaz Colony, and Liberty Chowk — also reported significant accumulation, prompting WASA to deploy drainage crews to clear water from low-lying choke points.\n\nThe post Rain, storm knock out 138 LESCO feeders, causing widespread outages in Lahore appeared first on HUM News English.",
