Instead, nearly two years after  _Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1_ reached cinemas, fans are still waiting for the next instalment.\n\nWith  _Chapter 1_ recently finding a new audience on Prime Video, interest in  _Horizon: Chapter 2_ has resurfaced, leaving many viewers wondering what happened to the sequel and when it will finally arrive.\n\nOriginally, Costner’s sprawling western franchise was planned as a four-part saga, with the first two films releasing within weeks of one another.  _Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1_ hit theatres on June 28, 2024, while  _Chapter 2_ had initially been scheduled for an August 16, 2024 release.\n\nBut those plans changed after the first film struggled at the box office.\n\nDespite heavy anticipation surrounding Costner’s passion project,  _Chapter 1_ grossed around $29 million in the United States and approximately $38 million worldwide, falling short of expectations.\n\nIn July 2024, New Line Cinema announced that  _Horizon: Chapter 2_ would no longer arrive as planned, saying the delay was intended to give audiences more time to discover the first film through its theatrical run and premium video-on-demand platforms.\n\nAt the time, the studio said the move would allow viewers a greater opportunity to engage with the opening chapter before continuing the story.\n\nTerritory Pictures, the production company behind the films, also backed the decision, saying audience enthusiasm for the western epic had strengthened confidence in the series and that extending the release window could ultimately benefit the second chapter.\n\nAlthough the sequel has yet to secure a release date, it has not disappeared entirely.\n\n_Horizon: Chapter 2_ premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 7, 2024, before screening again at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in February 2025, signalling the project is still moving forward despite the uncertainty surrounding its theatrical release.\n\nCostner has also remained vocal about his desire to continue the franchise.\n\nSpeaking to  _Deadline_ in November 2024, the actor-filmmaker said he was still determined to keep the story alive, even joking that he had been trying to find wealthy backers to help push the ambitious project forward.\n\nFor now, though,  _Horizon: Chapter 2_ remains without a confirmed release date, leaving fans of Costner’s western universe still waiting for the next chapter.\n\nThe post Why Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon: Chapter 2’ still has fans waiting appeared first on HUM News English.",
