PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Monday said that they held detailed discussions with Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V during a meeting focused on development cooperation and investment opportunities in the province.
Speaking to the media after the meeting in Chitral, Governor Kundi said he, along with Chief Minister Afridi, received Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the 50th hereditary Imam of Shia Ismaili Muslims, and reviewed ongoing and future projects of the Aga Khan Foundation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that the meeting covered potential cooperation in health, education, culture and tourism sectors, adding that both sides discussed ways to expand development initiatives in the province.
Kundi said that Prince Rahim Aga Khan expressed interest in expanding the Aga Khan Foundation’s projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said that discussions also focused on investment opportunities in the province, particularly in natural resources and tourism.
He said proposals related to the establishment of Aga Khan University Hospital and a university in Peshawar were also discussed during the meeting.
Both leaders said that the engagement reflected growing interest in strengthening development partnerships in the province.
Meanwhile, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V departed from Gilgit on Monday after completing four-day visit to Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, where he attended a series of religious and social gatherings attended by large crowds of followers.
During the visit, Prince Rahim Aga Khan travelled to Hunza, Gojal, Gahkuch, Yasin Gilgit and Chitral, where thousands of members of the Ismaili community gathered for his Deedar and catch a glimpse of their spiritual leader.
The visit was marked by celebrations and scenes of devotion across Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, with authorities and residents describing it as a major display of religious harmony and public enthusiasm.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan was seen off at the Gilgit airport by the G-B chief minister, the governor and senior military and civil officials.
Before departing, Prince Rahim thanked military and civil institutions for the security and administrative arrangements made during the visit and appreciated the efforts undertaken to facilitate the tour.
