"textContent": "WEB DESK: Securing a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory remains a steadfast national priority, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun declared on Monday.\n\nSpeaking on Resistance and Liberation Day which commemorates the end of Israel’s 22-year occupation of southern Lebanon in 2000 Aoun emphasised that Beirut is actively pursuing this goal through diplomatic channels, according to _Dawn News._\n\nAccording to a statement carried by Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA), the President stressed that ongoing negotiations with Tel Aviv \"will not be an act of concession or surrender.\"\n\nInstead, he framed the talks as a robust effort by the Lebanese state to assert its sovereign rights and protect its borders through its own military and security institutions.\n\n## Continued fighting despite diplomatic efforts\n\nThe President's remarks come against a backdrop of deep regional volatility. Beirut and Tel Aviv have engaged in three rounds of direct, US-mediated talks since mid-April in an attempt to secure a lasting peace arrangement. However, diplomacy has struggled to contain the reality on the ground.\n\nDespite a ceasefire agreement that took effect on 17 April which was recently extended into early July Israeli military operations have persisted in southern Lebanon.\n\nThe ongoing friction highlights the immense challenge of translating high-level diplomatic framework agreements into a stable, lasting truce.\n\n### The human cost of the conflict\n\nThe geopolitical standoff continues to exact a devastating toll on the region's civilian population. The current conflict, which largely involves intense hostilities between Israel and the militant group Hezbollah, escalated drastically on 2 March.\n\nAccording to figures released by Lebanese officials, the subsequent bombardments have resulted in severe casualties and widespread displacement.\n\nMore than 3,100 people have been killed, over 9,500 have suffered injuries, and approximately 1.6m individuals have been forced to flee their homes across Lebanon since the escalation began.\n\nThe post Full Israeli withdrawal remains national priority, says Lebanon’s President Aoun appeared first on HUM News English.",
