"textContent": "LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved a fine of Rs50,000 on individuals found dumping sacrificial animal remains in streets and neighbourhoods during Eidul Azha, as authorities prepare for a large-scale cleanliness operation across urban centres, officials said on Saturday.\n\nPunjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the penalty as part of a broader sanitation and monitoring plan aimed at preventing illegal disposal of animal waste during the Eid holidays, according to an official statement.\n\nThe provincial government has also established vigilance squads to monitor sensitive areas and enforce restrictions on dumping offal and other remains in prohibited locations.\n\nChairing a video-link meeting on Eidul Adha cleanliness arrangements, Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign urging citizens to dispose of animal waste responsibly and avoid using streets, drains and open spaces for dumping remains.\n\nOfficials said that special cleaning operations will be carried out across drains, canals and other key locations, while private housing societies, railway colonies and cantonment areas have also been included in the sanitation plan.\n\nThe chief minister also ordered targeted cleaning of 2,687 commercial markets across the province, with instructions to ensure strict oversight during the Eid period when waste generation typically spikes.\n\n“We must function as a unified government unit for cleanliness during Eidul Azha,” Maryam Nawaz said, adding that a system of incentives and penalties would be enforced based on performance.\n\nUnder the plan, cleanliness teams under the “Suthra Punjab” programme will conduct door-to-door collection of animal remains, while biodegradable bags will be distributed in commercial and residential areas to facilitate proper waste disposal.\n\nOfficials briefed the meeting that cleaning operations will intensify during the final hours of Chand Raat, focusing on major commercial markets, highways and busy intersections to ensure timely clearance ahead of Eid prayers and sacrifices.\n\nProvincial Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq and Local Government Secretary Mian Shakeel Ahmed briefed the chief minister on the operational plan.\n\nAuthorities said vigilance teams will monitor compliance throughout the Eid period, with fines imposed on individuals violating disposal rules as part of efforts to maintain sanitation standards in Punjab’s cities and towns.\n\nThe post Punjab to penalise open dumping of animal remains with Rs50,000 fine appeared first on HUM News English.",
