ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office said on Friday that Pakistan and China marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties on Thursday, describing relations as “time-tested” and central to regional stability.
At a weekly briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said that China had supported Pakistan in every difficult time and remained its “most trusted friend and strategic partner”, adding that bilateral relations had consistently withstood “every test of time”.
He said that cooperation between the two countries spanned economic, defence and diplomatic sectors, and both sides were moving forward with a shared vision for the future.
The spokesperson said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit China from May 26, where he is expected to meet the Chinese leadership.
He said that the upcoming trip will focus on cooperation in trade, industry, education and people-to-people exchanges.
The spokesperson said that Pakistan condemned drone attacks on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and is making efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East, including diplomatic outreach.
He said that the prime minister recently held a telephone call with the Emir of Qatar as part of ongoing contacts on regional developments.
Andrabi also said that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had made two visits to Iran, expressing hope that such incidents (drone attacks) would not be repeated.
On Kashmir, the spokesperson said that the international community was witness to Indian “atrocities” in the disputed region, adding that Pakistan pays tribute to those killed in the 2021 incident.
