ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday hosted a ceremony in honour of Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to continue its partnership with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) across key social and development sectors.
The prime minister said that AKDN had played an “effective role” in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, praising its long-standing contribution to health, education and community development in remote regions.
He particularly lauded the services of the Aga Khan University, saying Pakistan valued its role in advancing higher education and healthcare standards in the country.
“Pakistan always remains your second home,” Shehbaz Sharif said during his conversation with Prince Rahim Aga Khan.

The prime minister also described AKDN as a “reliable partner” in addressing the impacts of climate change, and reiterated the government’s desire to further strengthen cooperation with the network.
He expressed gratitude to Prince Rahim Aga Khan for providing the Serena Hotel in Islamabad free of charge for official negotiations, according to an official statement.
Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the late Prince Karim Aga Khan, acknowledging his seven decades of services and humanitarian contributions in Pakistan.
As a gesture of goodwill, the prime minister presented a commemorative postage stamp issued by Pakistan Post in recognition of the Aga Khan’s services.
The ceremony underscored Pakistan’s intent to maintain long-term engagement with AKDN in development initiatives, particularly in underserved and climate-vulnerable regions.
