WEB DESK: Pakistan has strongly condemned the "unlawful interception" of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli forces in international waters, demanding the immediate release of all detained humanitarian workers, including prominent Pakistani activist Saad Edhi.

In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi voiced deep concern over the arbitrary detention and reported mistreatment of those onboard the aid mission, according to Radio Pakistan.

The vessel, which was carrying essential humanitarian relief, was halted by Israeli authorities before it could reach its destination, sparking sharp diplomatic backlash from Islamabad.

Call for immediate release

The Foreign Office has called upon the international community to intervene urgently, urging global bodies to ensure the safety, dignity, and fundamental human rights of the captured activists.

Andrabi categorised the actions of the Israeli occupying forces as a direct violation of international maritime laws and humanitarian principles, stressing that aid workers must be protected rather than penalised for delivering life-saving relief.

Consular efforts underway

Among those currently held in Israeli custody is Saad Edhi, a well-known Pakistani humanitarian activist associated with the Edhi Foundation.

Addressing the detention of Pakistani citizens, the spokesperson confirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively monitoring the situation.

Islamabad remains in close contact with its diplomatic missions across the region to coordinate efforts and guarantee the swift, safe return of all detained Pakistani nationals.
