"textContent": "More than two decades after first becoming a household name on _American Idol_ , Clay Aiken returned to the show’s stage with something fans had not seen from him in nearly two decades: brand-new music.\n\nThe season two runner-up made a surprise return during the _American Idol_ season 24 finale on Monday, where he debuted his new single ‘Rewind’, marking his first original release in 18 years.\n\nFor longtime viewers, the moment felt especially nostalgic. Aiken, who narrowly lost _American Idol_ in 2003 to Ruben Studdard, returned to the same stage that launched his career, this time with a new chapter to introduce.\n\n## **Why Clay Aiken’s return felt like a full-circle moment**\n\nAiken’s finale appearance was more than just a performance.\n\nAhead of taking the stage, the singer teased the release online, joking with fans to dig out their old posters and T-shirts ahead of what he called a real “Rewind” moment.\n\nThe comeback also marked a rare return to music for Aiken, who has spent much of the last two decades building a career beyond recording. Since his _American Idol_ days, he has released a bestselling book, performed on Broadway, executive-produced a television Christmas special and even launched a congressional campaign in North Carolina in 2014.\n\n## **Clay Aiken shares special finale duet**\n\nThe finale also saw Aiken share an emotional moment with season 24 contestant Braden Rumfelt, who had been eliminated after reaching the Top 5.\n\nThe two North Carolina natives performed Elton John’s ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me’, a song with personal significance to Aiken, who originally performed it during his own _American Idol_ run.\n\nAhead of the finale, Aiken personally invited Rumfelt to join him on stage in a video message, congratulating the contestant on his run and saying it would be an honour to sing together during the finale.\n\nCoincidentally, Rumfelt was reportedly born on the same day Aiken originally performed the Elton John classic during season two of _American Idol_.\n\nThe post Clay Aiken makes major music comeback during emotional ‘American Idol’ moment appeared first on HUM News English.",
