  "textContent": "ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has announced that general election in Gilgit-Baltistan will be held on June 7.\n\nPolling for the G-B assembly will take place across the mountainous territory on the scheduled date, the commission confirmed.\n\nThe development follows earlier report carried out by The Punch sayibng that elections in Gilgit-Baltistan were likely to be held on June 7.\n\nThe Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly was dissolved on November 24, 2025. Elections were initially scheduled for January 24, 2026, but were postponed due to severe winter conditions in the region.\n\nAuthorities have now finalised June 7 as the new polling date, with a revised election schedule expected to be issued soon, according to official sources.\n\nThe upcoming elections will be the fourth since the introduction of the Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self-Governance Order 2009, which granted the region a degree of political autonomy.\n\nUnder the 2009 framework, the Pakistan People's Party formed the first regional government.
