Global reactions pour in as world wakes up to Iran-US ceasefire brokered by Pakistan

Last night proved to be crucial for global politics as the President of United States, Donald Trump announced a ceasefire of two-weeks thanks to the intervention of Pakistan. A temporary easing of tensions between the United States and Iran emerged on Wednesday, as Pakistan announced a proposed two-week ceasefire and invited both sides to Islamabad for negotiations on April 10.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said both countries had agreed to halt hostilities and praised their willingness to engage in dialogue. He expressed hope that the planned “Islamabad talks” would pave the way for a durable resolution. However, the White House clarified that no final agreement had yet been confirmed. The development followed direct outreach by Islamabad. US President Donald Trump said he would pause military action against Iran for two weeks, provided Tehran ensured safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

The decision came after discussions with Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir. Iran signalled conditional support, stating it would suspend defensive operations if attacks stopped. Its leadership also allowed limited maritime passage during the proposed truce period.
