Karachi weather: PMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms as Westerly wave impacts region

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast partly cloudy weather in Karachi on Monday, with a likelihood of thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall as a westerly weather system continues to influence parts of the country.

According to the latest advisory, temperatures in the city are expected to remain mild, with maximums ranging between 29°C and 31°C, while the minimum temperature has been recorded at 22.3°C.

Rain Expected Across Karachi and Sindh

The PMD noted that the ongoing westerly wave is affecting southwestern regions, bringing unstable weather conditions. As a result, Karachi and several districts across Sindh are likely to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

Areas expected to receive rainfall include:

• Karachi Division

• Jamshoro, Dadu, and Qamber Shahdadkot

• Jacobabad and Naushahro Feroze

• Shaheed Benazirabad and Sanghar

• Mirpurkhas, Matiari, and Hyderabad

• Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar

• Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal

Additionally, Sukkur, Kashmore, and Ghotki may witness moderate to heavy rainfall, with isolated chances of hailstorms.

The weather in Karachi is expected to gradually stabilize after Monday:

• Tuesday: Mostly sunny with occasional winds

• Wednesday: Predominantly sunny conditions

Recent Rainfall and Record-Breaking Showers

Karachi recently experienced an intense spell of rain that disrupted normal life. On April 2, torrential rainfall led to multiple fatalities and widespread urban flooding.

In a significant weather event, the city recorded 38.7 mm of rainfall within 24 hours, marking the highest April rainfall ever recorded in Karachi. The previous record of 37 mm was set on April 2, 1985.
