"textContent": "Actor Gina Gershon has opened up about turning down a lead role in _Friday the 13th Part 2_ early in her career, revealing the specific reason she ultimately walked away.\n\nSpeaking about her memoir _AlphaPussy: How I Survived the Valley and Learned to Love My Boobs_ , Gershon said the role required nudity in a scene she felt added little to the story.\n\n“I was offered a lead in that movie… but it definitely felt kind of exploitative to me,” she said, explaining that her character would have been topless shortly before being killed.\n\n## ‘It just didn’t feel right’\n\nGershon said she took time to reflect before making her decision, including speaking to her father, who encouraged her to trust herself.\n\n“It’s your body. If you’re comfortable with it, I’m comfortable with it,” she recalled him saying.\n\nAfter considering the role, she decided it was not right for her.\n\n“I wasn’t comfortable with it… it seemed silly to me,” she said, adding that she had no issue with nudity if it served the character or story.\n\n## Standing her ground in Hollywood\n\nThe actor also shared insights from her time on _Showgirls_ , where she said she often clashed with director Paul Verhoevenover creative choices.\n\nShe recalled one moment when he suggested adding unexpected nudity to a scene, prompting her to question the purpose behind it.\n\n“How does it reveal my character? How does it move the story forward?” she said.\n\nAccording to Gershon, the scene was ultimately filmed without the additional nudity.\n\n## From controversy to cult status\n\nReleased in 1995, _Showgirls_ was initially criticised and underperformed at the box office, but has since developed a cult following.\n\nGershon said the experience taught her not to focus too heavily on critical reception.\n\n“You can’t really listen to critics so much,” she said.\n\n## Trusting her instincts\n\nReflecting on her career, Gershon said trusting her instincts has been a consistent theme.\n\n“I just want to do something that I feel proud of,” she said.\n\nHer memoir explores her journey in Hollywood and the choices that shaped her path.\n\nThe post Gina Gershon reveals the reason she turned down ‘Friday the 13th’ role appeared first on HUM News.",
