  "textContent": "WEB DESK: The World Cup of Hockey will return in 2028 with games set to be played in Calgary, Edmonton and Prague, organisers confirmed on Monday.\n\nThe North American leg of the eight-nation tournament will be hosted in the Canadian province of Alberta, with Calgary and Edmonton sharing games, while Prague will serve as the European venue. The tournament was last held in 2016.\n\nCalgary’s new Scotia Place, scheduled to open for the 2027-28 NHL season, will stage six round-robin matches and one knockout fixture. Prague’s O2 Arena will host an identical slate.\n\nThe semi-finals and the final will take place at Rogers Place, home of the Edmonton Oilers.\n\n\"There is no international competition in sports that matches the passion, skill and excitement of hockey’s best-on-best coming together to represent their countries,\" said Gary Bettman. \"We look forward to bringing the World Cup of Hockey 2028 to three spectacular venues in cities that shine when staging major events.\"\n\nBettman added that Calgary, Edmonton and Prague would be ideal hosts for fans travelling from around the world and that the tournament would showcase the sport’s top players.\n\nDates for the competition, the participating nations and the full schedule will be announced later.\n\nMarty Walsh said players were eager to return to international competition following the recent Winter Olympics.\n\n\"Calgary, Edmonton and Prague are cities with deep roots in hockey, and the games will be played in three venues among the best in the world,\" Walsh said. \"Players cannot wait to wear their national colours in Alberta and Prague in February 2028.\"\n\nThe previous three editions of the tournament were won by the United States men's national ice hockey team in 1996 and the Canada men's national ice hockey team in 2004 and 2016.\n\nThe post World Cup of Hockey 2028 to be staged in Calgary, Edmonton and Prague appeared first on HUM News.",
