KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on Jumma-tul-Wida, the last Friday of Ramadan. Sindh Minister Nasir Hussain Shah made the announcement in a video message, saying the move is meant to give everyone a chance to join in the religious gatherings and prayers of the day. In the same statement, Shah also revealed that a major road in Karachi will be named after Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Talking about the upcoming religious processions, Shah reminded that no rallies will be allowed on Shahrah-e-Faisal, following court orders. He urged all Shia organisations to stick to their usual procession routes. In other news, the Sindh government has introduced a four-day workweek for public offices. From now on, government departments will be open Monday to Thursday, while Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be official holidays. Officials say the move is meant to cut costs and boost efficiency. Additionally, the government has decided to slash fuel usage for official vehicles by 50 per cent, as part of broader measures to save money while keeping essential services running smoothly.
