Iran’s ex-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reportedly dead in latest US-Israel strikes in Iran
TEHRAN: Iran’s Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who said ‘Israel must be wiped off the map,’ was reportedly targeted after the fresh wave of strikes in Iran was attacked by both the US and Israel on Sunday evening.
According to Western media sources, Ahmadinejad was under house arrest at the time and was killed in a targeted strike on his home.
The former president was a polarising hardliner who became the face of Tehran’s nuclear defiance and incendiary anti-Israel rhetoric.
Iran’s sixth president, Ahmadinejad, served between 2005 and 2013, and rose from relative obscurity as mayor of Tehran to defeat Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, who was a figure of the establishment, in a surprise 2005 runoff.
Iranian political experts described him as a confrontational ideologue whose economic management fueled inflation and whose diplomacy in use deepened Iran’s international isolation.
