"textContent": "At the end of the first episode of our industry series, now in its second season, Jake Dudek said that the COVID-19 pandemic wasn't the cause of the cycling industry's problems, but it was the trigger. Almost all the industry experts _Escape Collective_ has spoken with agree with that sentiment.\n\nBut even identifying the trigger doesn't fix what it exposed. The industry has had to change — in response to the boom and bust, but also to address a broader set of pressures that have challenged businesses and people across the supply chain: tariffs, shifting consumer behaviour, a restructured market landscape, and a global economic and geopolitical situation that shows no sign of settling down.\n\nWhy can’t the bike industry get itself out of trouble?Cycling brands are still struggling to emerge from the pandemic boom, and the bust that followed.Escape CollectiveSuvi Loponen\n\n_These are the themes we explore further in the second episode of this series. You can listen to the first episode through the article above, and the second episode is linked just below, or you can find it in your podcast app (Spotify, Apple) under the Overnight Success channel._\n\nIf there's one concise way to describe what the new normal looks like, it's that the pace has changed. That's how Rich Tauer, president of Quality Bicycle Products (QBP), put it to _Escape Collective_. Tauer is also one of the more optimistic voices in this episode, pointing to the growing influence of industry organisation People For Bikes as a real force for collaboration in the US – an industry body that has helped the sector navigate the ever-changing tariff landscape through coordinated lobbying.\n\n### This post is for subscribers only\n\nBecome a member to get access to all content\n\nSubscribe now",
