  "textContent": "Cor Vos\n\nIt was a strange sort of summit finish at the end of stage 9 of the 2026 Giro d'Italia, the Corne alla Scale anything but steady in gradient, with even a stretch of downhill betraying the 5.9% average gradient over 10.8 km. It was an enticing finish for the breakaway, but hard work from Decathlon-CMA CGM ultimately set up a battle between the best two GC riders in the race, Felix Gall and Jonas Vingegaard.\n\nGall made his move about 3 km from the finish, swiftly catching and passing Einer Rubio from the breakaway, and soon towing Vingegaard up to the front of the race where Giulio Ciccone was just about hanging on having attacked lower down the climb. The Italian's fading hopes of a stage win evaporated with 2 km to go when the GC riders left him behind. Vingegaard was determined to stay on Gall's wheel until the last kilometre, where he made his acceleration with about 800 metres to go and pushed on to the finish.\n\nThe Dane's second stage win of the Giro marks the 50th victory of his professional career, and put another 16 seconds between he and the Austrian overall.
