Campagnolo goes second-tier with Record 13

It’s been almost a year since Campagnolo unveiled its Super Record 13 wireless groupset. That year has been a whirlwind of sorts – the new groupset was widely recognised as a significant improvement over the 12-speed wireless offering that preceded it just two years earlier, but the company has since faced rocky roads off the bike, with rumours of mass layoffs narrowly avoided as it restructured and brought on new leadership.

Throughout that time, the company has promised brighter days ahead, with not-so-subtle hints that SR13 development would trickle down to more accessible price points. Today is one of those brighter days, as the company unveils its new Record 13 (in 2x and 1x chainring options) and Record X (1x only) groupsets for road and gravel – both bearing more than a striking resemblance to the Super Record road and Super Record X groupsets they now sit beneath in the Campagnolo lineup.

The basics

Record 13 is the spitting image of its Super Record sibling, borrowing the same design language and functionality throughout, along with offering cross-compatibility between the groupsets. Campagnolo says everything from gearing range to chain line, and ergonomics to shift speed is identical to Super Record. If Super Record is now priced as Campagnolo’s answer to SRAM’s Red and Shimano’s Dura-Ace, then Record is most aligned to Force and Ultegra.
