The UCI has issued a statement to Escape Collective after appealing a decision by the Belgian Competition Authority (BCA) to suspend its proposed maximum gearing test last year.

The case stems from a complaint raised by SRAM, which argued the test would have had a disproportionate impact on it and its teams as the only manufacturer without a compliant combination, while also challenging the lack of transparency, consultation, process failures, and overall lack of evidence to support the UCI’s safety rationale.

The appeal was heard last week in the Brussels Court of Appeal and a decision is expected on or before May 20.
