Look Keo Blade Vision pedal light review: No looking back

Road pedal lights – who knew we needed them? When Look announced its new Blade Vision pedal lights, I knew I wanted to test them, but mainly out of scepticism. Surely, given how long it's taken for the market to come out with such a product, it must be hard to get it right? After three months of testing the lights (and pedals) across all road conditions, including a winter's worth of rain, grit, and road salt, I can tell you they're genuinely impressive and another small thing (in addition to a rear radar) that has made me feel a little bit safer on the roads.

As mentioned, these are a bit of a first. While Look has offered Vision lighting on urban pedals since 2017, and the likes of Redshift have had Arclight flat pedals, this is the first time the pedal-light technology has made it onto road-specific clipless pedals. And unlike many "first" products, it seems that Look has hit the mark on the first attempt.

The short of it: Look Keo Vision pedals bring genuinely useful integrated lighting to road clipless pedals for the first time, and yes, they work exactly as promised.

Highs: Effective biomotion visibility, auto-pause feature for extending battery life, minimal weight penalty, excellent durability in harsh conditions, and great visibility even in busier urban environments.

Lows: Attachment mechanism can take some getting used to, no real-time battery monitoring (only low-battery warning at 15%).

Weight: 18.5 g per light (37 g total)

Price: Keo Blade Ceramic Vision: €250 / £250 / US$325 Keo 2 Max Vision: €125 / £125/ US$175 Vision Upgrade Kit (Keo Blade V4 only): €60 / £60 / US$79

What's in the box

A pair of cleats are also included in the box.

The Vision light system is available across two of Look's pedal models: the Keo Blade Ceramic and the more affordable Keo 2 Max. Existing Keo Blade V4 owners can also retrofit with the upgrade kit for €60 / US$79 / £60. Look also makes a Keo Blade Power Dual Vision (€949) power meter pedal, which combines the integrated lighting system with dual-sided power measurement – though that is only available in Europe.
