Will Evenepoel race Flanders after all?

The "will he, won't he?" is back on. After offseason reports suggested that Remco Evenepoel was considering racing this year's Tour of Flanders or Giro d'Italia only to have Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe announce that he would do neither, Wielerflits reports that Evenepoel might actually line up at De Ronde after all.

The 26-year-old is a two-time Monument winner thanks to back-to-back victories at Liège-Bastogne-Liège but his resume is very light on experience racing on cobbles. He made a few appearances in smaller races like Nokere Koerse and Binche-Chimay-Binche early in his career and he is the defending champion at Brabantse Pijl, which does feature some pavé , but he has never ridden any of the major Cobbled Classics at the WorldTour level.

Sunday's Tour of Flanders, then, would mark his debut in the race, and although Evenepoel recently reiterated that he won't be at the start line, Wielerflits now reports that he is joining Red Bull's Classics squad for a course recon on Thursday. If all goes well, he will apparently be in the lineup for the race itself. Wielerflits based its story off of information from "multiple sources" but did not include mention of whether the team itself has said anything; Escape 's own request for comment to the Red Bull team was not answered by publication time.
