"textContent": "Cor Vos\n\nIt was hardly a surprise that the heavy favorite at the Volta a Catalunya would destroy the field on the queen stage, but Jonas Vingegaard still had to do the thing. With Tadej Pogačar already making it clear that 2026 is set to be yet another season of Tadej Pogačar brilliance, it was up to his biggest GC rival to deliver – or face the doom and gloom of headlines questioning his status.\n\nHe did deliver, and instead it will be Remco Evenepoel staring down the doom and gloom after a mountainous stage 5 to La Molina.\n\nA handful of brave souls attacked out of the GC group on the finishing climb of La Molina, shortened due to high winds but still plenty challenging enough to be a GC battleground. Vingegaard let Visma-Lease a Bike teammate Sepp Kuss do some chasing before leaving the pursuers behind, catching the leaders, and then blowing them away with a little under 6 km to go. Without really leaving the saddle, he pressed on solo out front.\n\n[race_result id=14 stage_id=89953 count=5 gc=0 year=2026]\n\n[race_result id=14 stage_id=89953 count=5 gc=5 year=2026]\n\nWhen all was said and done, Vingegaard crossed the line a whopping 51 seconds ahead of runner-up Felix Gall (Decathlon-CMA CGM), the only rider within a minute of the stage winner. Vingegaard now has a GC lead over 57 seconds over Gall.\n\nFrankly, he made it look easy, though he noted afterward that it was not.\n\n### This post is for subscribers only\n\nBecome a member to get access to all content\n\nSubscribe now",
