"textContent": "Tour du Rwanda\n\nFollowing on from the first-ever UCI Road World Championships to be held in Africa last year, the organisers of the Tour du Rwanda are considering upgrading the race in 2027, possibly to WorldTour status, as part of efforts to build a tangible legacy from the landmark championships.\n\nAfrica’s biggest race is organised by the national cycling federation of Rwanda (FERWACY). FERWACY is currently “exploring all options” and plans to present a proposal to the UCI later in the year after hearing advice from experienced partners. Other ideas being floated include creating a one-day race using the circuit from the Kigali World Championships, possibly at the WorldTour level, or an additional stage race at a higher grade to the Tour du Rwanda.\n\nThe Tour du Rwanda first took place in 1988 as a national-level event, stepping into the UCI calendar in 2009 at 2.2 level. The race was elevated to 2.1 status in 2019 and has since been Africa's biggest race.\n\n### This post is for subscribers only\n\nBecome a member to get access to all content\n\nSubscribe now",
