"textContent": "Komoot has launched a new integration with ChatGPT, which allows users to discover routes using language prompts in the popular AI tool. In essence, the new Komoot-ChatGPT app can pair the user's prompts with a list of routes drawn from Komoot's vast library, and from there, the user can open the suggestions in the Komoot app to save, edit, or download them.\n\nWhile it might sound promising, in practice, the app does not unlock new routes so much as it simply refines the way you find the ones that already exist on Komoot. That's because the ChatGPT integration can only recommend what the route planning app already has in its database, and it is not generating brand-new options or plotting together a new multi-day tour that has never been done. So if you are already adept at using any cycling route planner and doing route research elsewhere, this is less of an exciting announcement.\n\nHow Komoot lost its wayMere days after the announcement of acquisition by an Italian tech firm, the route-planning platform laid off 80% of its staff, and former employees fear for its future.Escape CollectiveSuvi Loponen\n\nAnd while the new feature might be both less useful to and rejected by die-hard route-planning-lovers, it is easy to see why Komoot is introducing the feature. In the press release announcing the integration, Komoot said that planning for daily tasks or holidays increasingly happens in ChatGPT, and adds that the app \"brings Komoot directly into the workflows people are already using to find inspiration and shape their plans.\" Komoot is not wrong in that, although whether that is a positive depends on who you ask.\n\n### This post is for subscribers only\n\nBecome a member to get access to all content\n\nSubscribe now",
