"textContent": "## Plain text capture, a Bauhaus obsession, and the keyboard that finally fits my EDC\n\n_Screenshots are from each company’s official website_\n\n* * *\n\nToday I’ll be sharing\n\n * a new app for getting text into Obsidian\n * the iOS version of the Bauhaus Clock\n * the Nillkin Cube Pocket Foldable Bluetooth Keyboard with Trackpad\n\n\n\nNo affiliates, just good stuff.\n\n### Capture - for Obsidian, macOS\n\n✅ One-off lifetime purchase\n\nCapture is a brand new app from the entertaining and enigmatic Hiro.\n\nHere’s what I noticed after playing with it for a bit:\n\n * Capture is fast at getting things to where you want them in Obsidian, because you don’t have to choose from a list\n * Killer feature = context; Capture automatically takes note of where you were when making the note\n * I’d like more choice when appending, like adding the date as well as the time for those of us with an OBTF\n * I’d like to also be able to prepend\n * No tags are available (yet) when capturing to a specific note\n\n\n\n**Conclusion** : Capture is fast and fun, but Drafts is still king. You might like to check out Hiro’s semi-regular Hiro Report for “Delightful tech, Apple apps, everyday gear, and other fun finds from the web straight to your inbox.”\n\n### Bauhaus Clock now has an iOS version!\n\n✅ One-off lifetime purchase\n\n_“ Same obsessive craft, new canvas”_\n\nJust a beautiful product. I bought the Mac version of the Bauhaus Clock at the end of last year, and the iOS version almost as soon as it was released.\n\nThe Mac Bauhaus Clock is my screensaver, and the iOS version has mostly replaced Desk Clock (still highly recommended) on my iPhone. I like being able to adjust the skin of the Bauhaus Clock widget independent of the one I’ve chosen for the app itself.\n\n**Conclusion** : This is an unapologetically expensive app that you totally do not need, but may well want anyway. There is something highly satisfying about being surrounded by well-designed things that were made with fastidious care and attention to detail!\n\n### Nillkin travel keyboard (folding)\n\n✅ Around $100 AUD (I got mine for just under $80)\n\nLogitech’s K380 Bluetooth keyboard can connect to three different devices at the press of a button, but it’s relatively heavy. Apple’s Bluetooth keyboard is lovely, but it doesn’t fit in my everyday carry bag (EDC).\n\nAt only 182 x 108 x 16 mm when folded, it’s easy to carry with you. It has 64 keys compared with Apple’s 78, but most of the expected keyboard features are available via the Function key.\n\nThe Nillkin Cube Pocket Foldable Bluetooth Keyboard with Touchpad\n\n * can connect to three different devices\n * is small and light\n * fits into my EDC\n * has a dual function numpad / trackpad\n\n\n\nI’m happy with it, though of course there are a few ’but’s.\n\n * iOS is a poor cousin; more features are available when using it with Android devices\n * The trackpad works but isn’t smooth when scrolling (iOS)\n * You need to place it on a stable surface when typing, due to the folds (on-lap writing sessions work, crossed-legs don’t)\n * It comes in a white drawstring cloth bag, which I expect will look dirty fairly soon (though it still looks good after knocking about in my handbag for a couple of weeks, surprisingly)\n\n\n\n**Conclusion** : I like this keyboard for its supreme portability and the way the keys are protected when folded. It works well enough, but I wish the trackpad was more iOS-friendly.\n\n* * *\n\n_💬 I love to hear from readers! email hello at ellanew dot com or message me on Mastodon.
