Everything is Black & White
📷 Ricoh GR10 (Delta 400 film)
After over a year of it sitting in my camera, I’ve finally managed to get through a roll of black and white film. I love shooting in black and white so much that I found myself “saving” it, which— well —defeats the whole point. One of the delights of shooting on film is that you only get so many shots, but you have to push through that and just let loose with the same attitude as digital.
Anyway, this roll ended up getting used mostly on Mt. Lowe and at the Arboretum (which I’ll get to another day). In the case of Lowe, I took many of the same shots as I did with my digital camera (here and here), but the areas scarred by the Eaton Fire take on a completely different flavor in black and white.
Looking back on the trail where the fires wereCompared to the color photo this actually feels more accurate to what it was like to stand here and look back on this. There’s still a lot of regrowth needed in some spots. The shadows from the viewing tubes really get me on this one in a way that just isn’t the same as color.
