by Anonymous I've been seeing quite a few motorcycle deaths in the news lately. This latest one occurred at SE 26th and Powell. I was once riding home with a friend in her car, and we just crossed over the Ross Island on the east side. At Milwaukee, there was a backup because it was rush hour. We were, oh, 15 to 20 cars backed up from the traffic light. We noticed a motorcycle driving past us, you know how they do in between the two car lanes to get ahead. So we also noticed there were cars stopped with a gap for this little side street left turn in the opposite direction. So then we see this car turning left, which is why cars were stopped. But that was the very moment the motorcycle wanted to maneuver past us cars, and didn't see the car turning left because it was like, the most perfect, and simultaneous collision. It was quite shocking to say the least. The car turning left creamed the motorcyclist. The bike went flying, the cyclist went flying and the car pulled over. Pedestrian bystanders were helping the motorcyclist which it appeared the cyclist was at least moving. I do know I saw the driver of the car getting out and she must've been absolutely freaked out. It truly wasn't the car at fault because as we drove past where the car was turning left, there was actually a lane with a left turn arrow on the street. I felt bad for the cyclist, but I felt worse for the driver because she looked very young and will likely be traumatized for the rest of her life. So I dunno, is all that freedom worth it, especially when you aren't following the rules of the road?
