Brno MotoGP Friday Round Up: Fast Times, Holeshot Bans, And Why MotoGP Fans Don't Need To Be Motorcyclists
The bikes are fast around Brno this weekend. Just how fast, we saw in timed practice on Friday afternoon. In Moto3, Malaysian rider Hakim Danish took a quarter of a second off Guido Pini's pole record from last year. And in MotoGP, there were seven riders under the previous lap record set by Pecco Bagnaia in 2025, with Ai Ogura nearly six tenths faster than the Ducati rider's pole time last year. With better weather, and asphalt that has had a year to reach peak grip, the times are breathtaking.
To put that into some kind of perspective. Ogura's time of 1'51.735 is nearly four seconds faster than Johann Zarco's pole time from 2020, the last time MotoGP came here on the old asphalt. Part of that speed is down to the bumps being removed, and the new grippy asphalt. But there is still at least a second, and probably two in the 2026 MotoGP machines, and the level of competition at the moment. The speed of these machines around Brno is, in the fullest sense of the word, awesome.
