Mugello MotoGP Saturday Subscriber Notes: When Winning Isn't Enough
Sometimes, winning isn't enough to bring you what you deserve. Take Dynavolt Intact GP rider Manu Gonzalez, for example. Comfortably leading the Moto2 championship after two wins, and with more podiums this year than any other rider in the class. Rode a superb race at Barcelona, demonstrating the kind of tire management skills that are a guarantee of success in MotoGP.
And yet Gonzalez is off to WorldSBK next year, with rumors linking him to Honda's effort, Somkiat Chantra being moved into a separate team with Thai sponsorship. (And given Honda's WorldSBK results in recent years, that is yet another purgatory.) There is, it seems, no room for him in MotoGP. Meanwhile, four other Moto2 riders look set to make the jump to MotoGP in 2027 David Alonso to the factory Honda team, Dani Holgado to Gresini Ducati, Izan Guevara to Pramac Yamaha, and Senna Agius being linked with a possible move to Tech3.
