Yet Another Marquez Rule: Race Direction Changes Pit Entry Lane Rules
Marc Marquez has authored yet another change to the MotoGP rule book. After meetings with teams in Le Mans, Race Direction has issued a change to the rules on entering pit lane. From now on, it will only be possible to enter pit lane via the designated entry point, the dashed line which marks the point at which the entry lane leaves the race track and leads to the pits.
In the current rulebook, it says merely that riders cannot across the solid white line marking the inside of pit lane entry. That rule was put in place to prevent riders cutting corners and trying to gain time by taking short cuts into the pits.
During the sprint race at Jerez, Marc Marquez drove a coach and horses through the loophole in that rule. The Ducati Lenovo rider crashed on the outside of Turn 13, the final corner, past the pit lane entry point. He waited for riders to pass, then cut across the track to enter the pits.
