"textContent": "> In return, Atari shares a portion of the loot with the development team.\n\nHas this been clarified? Do the TTD bundle sales on Steam contribute to server costs, thus it's dependent on people buying the game there? Because it's unclear if the dev team get anything directly. Is Atari doing a flat-rate payment or a continuous revenue share tied directly to bundle sales? Do the maintainers prefer donations on the site or is it better to buy the bundle now? Because the new update post just seems like pure damage control because of the backlash lol. \"OpenTTD as a project retains its full independence\" yet you now have to pay 10 bucks to Atari to access it on Steam and GOG.\n\nAs others mentioned Steam was a convenient and easy way to access the game, and player charts reflect that in January 2026 it had a great peak of ~1500 players, which was more than the 800-900 average peaks in previous years (https://steamcharts.com/app/1536610#All).\n\nAnd what's even worse, the re-release of TTD is just a DOSBox wrapper so it isn't updated for newer operating systems, just pushed through an emulator to make that cashgrab $$$.\n\nimo the backlash is completely fair and warranted for such a move against a 'fully independent' open-source project lol. No hate towards the maintainers of course. And reminder Atari is a complete ass of a company - bankrupt in 2013, had difficulties securing investors, had a failing CRYPTOCURRENCY, casino and mobile gaming division, and its business nowadays is this stupid nostalgia bait of rereleasing retro games with no new additions.\n\nStatistics: Posted by sunwinds — 21 Mar 2026 15:18\n\n* * *",
