That's the declaration of the development team. They might be hiding something, but no source can possibly be more trustworthy. I am absolutely certain that there has never been any copyright infringement, but I totally understand the unwillingness to engage in a legal battle with all its expenses. Whatever agreement there is between the development team and Atari, I hope you guys have it signed and notarised.

The drama on Reddit seems to be fuelled by pure computer illiteracy — the poor chaps don't know how to play the game without giving money to the evil corporation.
