That's a bold claim. It uses no original assets, the code is independently written (at least as far as I'm aware), and it's not the Transport Tycoon IP. So what exactly is "bootleg" about it?

imo it's pretty obvious that some behind-the-scenes agreement has been made that prevents anyone from saying anything. There was obvious legal pressure put on OpenTTD, otherwise we'd have heard something aside from the corpo-clean-says-actually-nothing-FAQ. The threat of lawsuits and whatnot is of course enough to get Atari what it wants; it's not like anyone likes the idea of financial risk of going to court over a hobby project. Scummy move all around.
