"textContent": "This is a continuation of my previous project, but seeing how quite cluttered the thread is, and that i've \"started over\" at one point, I'll make a new post instead.\n\n> So quite some years back i tried building a british rail network at it's peak, and now i just felt like coming back to OpenTTD so i decided to finish this 'little' project of mine. For the map itself, i used the rather nice UK v3 Scenario Map by JonScaife, and since it was from quite a long time ago, i couldn't find any other scenarios better than this one, and heightmaps just don't cut it. Well let's get right into it then.\n\nSo the gist of this project is as such, and although now that we are starting to have better UK scenario maps, this is still my preference for now due to how easier it is to simulate in size. The larger it is, not just the longer I'll take, but also the harder it is to manage the companies.\n\nWelcome to my iteration of British Rail networks!\nA mix of historically-accurate lines (later twisted anyway) plus some fictional lines, all to fit the scale. Functional important connections over nitty-gritty details, but it should work quite well.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnd here comes the bulk screenshots of various interesting areas around the map! All images available from my Imgur here.\n\n[+] Spoiler\n\n\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n\n> There's some joint lines around that can't be easily mimicked. So I decided to go with this alternating track pattern. If you noticed the track fencing in previous pictures, you'll understand.\n>\n>\n>\n>\n>\n\n\nSave game name's BRBA which stands for British Railways By Amir, can be accessed here. There will be three versions of it:\n\n 1. V6.00 Starting (Proper Starting Scenario. All that's left is to press all trains to run, and you're good to go.)\n 2. V6.00 Testrun Freight Commence (Before Freight starts running on the line)\n 3. V6.00 Testrun Progress (A fair lot of progress at this point, if you don't feel like waiting for 9 years. Added some extra ferry services.)\n\nDetails regarding the scenario.\n\n[+] Spoiler\n\n\n> * The savefile was last made on JGR's PatchPack version 0.65.4.\n> * The savefile comes complete with some NewGRF industries, vehicle sets, tracks and background overhauls, and a gamescript.\n> * One thing to be noted however, is that I have adjusted the day length factor, such that it is quite painfully long.\n>\n\n\n\nContext for why I created the scenario as such.\n\n[+] Spoiler\n\n\n> * Initial plan was to simulate British Rail and Beeching Axe.\n> * To get there, I need to run the whole complete route first. That way I can identify which routes are unprofitable.\n> * Along the way, I also noticed that it could be fun to have more branch lines here and there, thus some of the fictional ones you can see, especially in Northernmost Scotland.\n> * At the same time as well, I was formulating a what-if for the Big Four groupings. I came up with the Big Five instead, as it splits the ownership more fairly. Check my excel sheet.\n> * Aside from soon-to-be LNER, you can see who shall be incorporated into which, via the shares. I'm quite biased towards GCR, don't ask me why\n> * Company count is limited to 15, so I have to make do with merging other smaller ones. This can be seen with the Scottish and Welsh companies.\n> * Map scale is also limited, so I'm sticking with 5-tile train lengths. Exception has been made to some (particularly WCML & ECML) for the later APT & IC225 trains to fit in major stations.\n> * All lines are double-tracked. This way you can see the infrastructure costs going up, and expedites the process of either singling the line, or even axing it completely.\n>\n\n\nHave fun playing! Do let me know of your thoughts or improvements. Not that I'll have the time, but when I do at least, I might incorporate them. I'll also be posting should there be any new progress, but current plan is to make it non-JGRPP compatible.\n\nStatistics: Posted by TheAmir259 — 01 Mar 2026 03:11\n\n* * *",
