Apple Vision Pro finally gets an official YouTube app

I didn't have an official [YouTube app coming to Apple Vision Pro](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/youtube-for-visionos/id6745572359 YouTube for visionOS) two years after launch on my bingo card, but that's exactly what happened this week. The timing of the release is puzzling.

Jason Cross, writing for Macworld, sums it up well:

The real problem here, aside from this being a version of the app that YouTube could and should have had available when Vision Pro was released two years ago, is that nobody cares anymore. Apple Vision Pro is all but dead.

Two years after its launch, nobody seems to be buying Vision Pro any longer. Its presence has been greatly reduced in Apple Stores, and Apple seems to have turned its attention to the latest buzzword: AI.

The release is exciting for those who already have a Vision Pro, sure, but there's next to zero chance it's going to spur any further Vision Pro sales. Especially at $3,500.

Why release it now? An official YouTube app surely would have at least helped create some hype for Vision Pro, possibly even spurred more developers to bring their apps to the platform (looking at you, Netflix). But instead, it's released two years later on a random Thursday.
