Reign at Boston: Gamethread

Seattle Reign will be hoping a change of scenery will be just what’s needed to shake off the goalscoring funk that has plagued them for the past two months. They face expansion side Boston Legacy for the first time today in their second-to-last match before a month-long summer break.

Similar to the Reign in Spokane earlier in the season, Boston has been forced to relocate to a temporary home-away-from-home due to World Cup prep at their regular venue. Today’s game is the first NWSL match to be played at Pawtucket’s Centreville Bank Stadium, which normally hosts a men’s USL Championship team.

The Reign are on a five-match winless skid with no goals scored. Last Friday they dropped a 2-0 result at home to Gotham. Boston, meanwhile, is on the opposite trajectory – after losing each of their first five matches, they’re now undefeated in their most recent five (2-0-3). Last weekend they earned a 1-1 draw at Bay FC.
