The Seattle Sounders will host the second of three home games in the span of a week tonight against the San Jose Earthquakes. Through the first few months of the season, the Earthquakes have been the best team in the league with 29 points, already eight more than they had in the season immediately prior to Bruce Arena taking over as head coach.

The Earthquakes have done this while using a roster heavy on domestic talent that came through the MLS SuperDraft and playing a style that is fun and entertaining.

They will be without two of their top players, however. Niko Tsakiris and Timo Werner have both been ruled out for this game, with Tsakiris likely out for 3–4 months after undergoing groin surgery.

The Sounders should be about as healthy as they’ve been all year, with only Pedro de la Vega, Yeimar Gomez Andrade and Niko Petković listed as out.

• The only loss the Earthquakes have suffered this year came at the hands of the Sounders, who won that previous meeting 1–0.
• The Sounders are currently enjoying a club-record 21-game home unbeaten streak (15–0–6).
• The Earthquakes lead MLS with 27 goals scored and are second with a +19 goal-difference.
• The Sounders have allowed the fewest goals (6) in MLS.
