"textContent": "> ... creating the tarballs is easier, but most projects targeting Linux seem to create .deb for Debian and derivatives, but also .rpm for Fedora and derivatives.\n\nActually I like tarballs, they were/are the default mode for me to distribute \"stuff\" (also data, not just s/w), and allow not to \"install\" s/w in the system but just as a user. I have nothing against .deb (and .rpm when I was on opensuse). Unfortunately they aren't the only way used onder Linux ... there are snaps (which I loathe), and Appimage (I just went across one in my search for a \"protected\" fallback browser for the few sites where Pale Moon does not work, helium. despite the It's FOSS site says there are binary tarballs, there aren't ... so I tried the Appimage ... it sor of works but has conflicts with apparmor).\n\nAnd yes, please let us stay niche. There was an adage (also a folk TV show) \"meno siamo, meglio stiamo\" (the less we are, the better we feel)\n\n* * *",
