"textContent": "> And yes, please let us stay niche. There was an adage (also a folk TV show) \"meno siamo, meglio stiamo\" (the less we are, the better we feel)\n\nAgreed, but ultra-niche and \"less we are\" becomes dangerously close to zero and non-existence. More presence and opening-up to a wider audience is needed. Not mainstream, but \"less we are\" is too risky nowadays.\n\n===============\n\nMore thoughts/ideas on this important issue. Yes, the goal should be: more users (not mainstream numbers obviously). They can help with:\n\nMid-term: Reverse the Web Compatibility issue. Expose the offenders and the reasons behind the problem. More vocal complaints, more users complaining and more targeted, documented complains. It's the job of web pages to cater for us, not the other way around (exceptions still apply, of course).\n\nLong-term, ultimate goal: Put Goanna/UXP on the List. The List that will make it harder for Web developers to ignore us. \"The List\" cannot be currently clearly defined but we should shape, create and influence it. Mozilla may or may not disappear. Either way, we must be present and prepared.\n\nGoanna is already listed in Wikipedia as one of the handful remaining active engines. This position should be taken advantage of. Only, single non-corporate active browser engine getting ignored, or even directly/indirectly sabotaged (no conspiracy theories though). We need more publicity, articles, explanations and unveiled, substantiated accusations on this.\n\n===============\n\nBack to new users: Honesty is essential. Attracting new users then disappointing them must be avoided at all costs. Create a brand new, prominent page/section in the home page. Make a link in the installer: \"If you new, make sure to read this first\". Make sure they read it.\n\nThis page should serve as:\n\nA) An Online Status/Monitor of a bunch of mainstream, corp-websites that do not work as expected (or at all). Example: YouTube is currently slow because x. Discord/Slack/Teams etc. do not work because WebRTC. And so on.\n\nB) A clear, honest explanation on why each of these websites does not work as expected. Brief, simple, unapologetic. Make sure the user understands what is beyond your/our/their control and what isn't.\n\nC) Provide direct contact information for each offending website/service, so the users may quickly complain where it is needed.\n\nFurthermore: this page should also include wide-reaching offenders that may or may not fall into the mainstream / \"mega-corp\" category. Services that affect many websites: Discourse, Disqus, Wix (I seem to remember Wix is a problem, not 100% sure) and so on.\n\nMake it very clear that they choose to either ignore or not support us. Not much difference, either way: the end result remains a middle finger to the user, leading us back to: Mid-term: Reverse the Web Compatibility issue.\n\nI hope some of this is helpful. As with the \"in-house\" extensions suggestion, I do believe that once the initial work is done, this should be low maintenance. Not many extension are needed, and the mainstream websites to be monitored are not that many. Their Pale Moon Compatibility Status does not really change often. Unless we do something about it.\n\n* * *",
