It's been a vessel to push Chrome dominance as well, and yes, for years now there have been scripting chunks in Youtube's UI code that run like tar on anything but Blink. Reports about negative performance impact were ignored (and probably seen as leverage so allegedly \"not fixed on purpose\") because Blink was fine.
