Would've upgraded the CPU if I had any accurate info on the capabilities of the motherboard and chipset, but can't find anything definitive. Was even unsure whether it would support 8GB of RAM, and definitely no idea whether it could support more - like 12 or 16 or whatever. I've been poor all my life, could barely afford this one second-hand, and can't waste the very little money I got left buying a better CPU or more RAM on the premise that "it may work". It badly needs a new keyboard though, and can't find one anywhere around here for the UK layout (got used to that layout since my very first IBM Model M keyboard back in the late '90s, and I really couldn't use a US version).

Off-topic: Is your device running linux?

Because if so, I know a computer that is really good for compiling stuff fast and with as few blobs as possible.

I have this laptop as my main device. It works quite well.

Barely ever overheats and it only started to get hot when I did -j

and only when it reached like -j80 or more (in my case anyways I had it on a laptop cooler that was off and it wasn't super hot in my house, so probably -j40 would be when it starts to get hot.

Really awesome tho if you can find one decently priced. I don't know how much money you have though, so i won't pretend to know. I am only saying it is a damn good linux computer /offtopic]
