Hmm... try this:

  1. Go to about:config in the URL bar.

  2. Search for browser.display.prefers_color_scheme.

  3. Change the value from 1 to 2.

Hello, thank you for this advice. Before, we didn't even bother to check if websites offered a dark mode or not. I approve of your solution.

@moonbat I checked the box by doing

There is no need to muck around in about:config when the UI directly exposes the setting. Tools -> Preferences -> Content tab -> Fonts & colors section -> Colors -> 'When a web page asks for my preferred color scheme'.

But that's no longer the case. In the end, there was no need for an extension. Basically, and speaking personally: I don't like forcing all websites into dark mode. I prefer to respect the users' choices, and besides, if I only use a light-mode site myself, it's a choice, and I really don't like that forced slideshow effect with Swarth. But again, if a user wants to install it, they're free to do so anyway. Basically, I'm trying to get closer to how modern browsers handle sites with automatic dark mode. And I'm sincerely sorry I didn't see your explanation, but English isn't my first language. Imagine if you had to develop everything in French without knowing a word of it, and all your searches were only in French? That's where modern browsers come in handy by offering to easily translate the language with a simple click to the right of the address bar. The problem is that you have to click again after each click. Besides, it's Google, I'd like a solution like DuckDuckGo.

Furthermore, in Firefox ESR following v117, there was also an element in about:config that needed to be set to "true" to activate it. It's "browser.translations.enable".

Now all that's missing is an equivalent translator with a choice in the open-source world.
