That's one of the commits I already built with and ruled out. Here's that exact PR's code being put to use (note the EM space, not part of the original two whitespace characters added as part of #2921):

If that was the offending code, both of those wouldn't be working at the same time.

You're right about the release versions, tested myself with portable, but I'd swear building 34.1.0 from its tagged point also rendered it wrong.
