Those snap details are one of the easiest ways to identify a Last Crusade-style jacket, and I think they're partially what makes it look more like a jacket than the Raiders version.

They prevent the wind flap, which is used to prevent wind from entering the jacket through the zipper teeth, from flapping around in the wind, or at high speeds. This flappiness is especially true of the lighter-weight leathers like lamb and goatskin.

The Last Crusade version of the jacket tends to be more comfortable for everyday use, particularly if you prefer a looser fit that allows you to keep the jacket on while working. Or adventuring.

While I mentioned Wested as the original producer, another very important manufacturer of Indy jackets is US Wings.

Their connection is part of the production lineage as well. The design roots trace to Neil Cooper (of Cooper Sportswear), who produced jackets tied to the Indiana Jones films in the 80s — Temple of Doom specifically. When that production era ended, US Wings continued in Cooper's stead, even having labels for both brands throughout their production jackets (Indiana Jones styles and others like A2 jackets).

Fit, wearability, and why people would actually buy an Indy jacket

One of the reasons Indy jackets have stuck around for so long is that they're genuinely wearable in daily life.

They hit a middle ground that a lot of leather jackets don't:
