This is all true, but I don’t understand the point you are making. Are you saying that what I say (ie. we can absolutely proceed in a way that won’t give up users) is not possible? Because then I disagree. You just have to read my point all the way to the end. Or you take an issue with the “we will notify users” part? That text was written 10+ years ago, maybe it needs a revision saying " attempt to notify". Yes you can be gagged, threatened with fines and penalties, but you can absolutely just flip a switch. Most are not prepared to do that, we are, just like Lavabit did.
