In the US, it’s clearly not based on the Democrat-Republican politics fact that there’s bipartisan support for surveillance in the House and Senate. The main protectors of civil liberties this term have been highly conservative Republicans like Massie. They are the ones that don’t seem to flip flop, unlike most Democrats who supported FISA when Biden was in power. Of course there’s Wyden who’s consistent, but you won’t have luck sticking with politics for civil liberties, in the USA.
